Kathleen Morrison earned her Ph.D. from UC Berkeley in 1992. She is Professor of Anthropology and of Social Sciences in the College and studies the archaeology and historical anthropology of South Asia with a focus on precolonial and early colonial South India. Her interests include state formation and power relations in South Asia, agricultural intensification as a general historical problem, colonialism and imperialism, landscape history, and the integration of archaeological, historical, and ecological analysis. She was appointed Director of the Center for International Studies in 2003. |

Mark Lycett holds a Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico. His current interests focus on the historical anthropology and social ecology of colonial landscape formation in Latin America, western North America, and South Asia. He has directed the Program on the Global Environment since its launch in 2007. |

Professor James Hevia's research deals with nineteenth century European empire building and its impact on Asia. His current research deals with the production of authoritative knowledge about China and Central Asia by diplomats, missionaries, and military intelligence officers, and its relation to contemporary area studies. |

Evalyn Tennant returned to CIS as Associate Director in March 2008 after nearly four years at the Chicago Center for Contemporary Theory (3CT). From 2001 to 2004, Evalyn was the Assistant and then Associate Director of CIS and also taught in the Human Rights, International Studies, and Environmental Studies Programs; more recently she was associate editor of the Carnegie Council's journal, Ethics & International Affairs. |

Jamie Bender received her B.S. in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She earned a M.A. in Biology from Boston University, researching Neotropical mammals in the Ecuadorian rainforest, and an Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Jamie taught Anthropology and Biology at Oak Park and River Forest High School for 5 years before joining CIS as the Outreach Coordinator. |
